Scouting Locations

Finding the perfect location for a shoot can be a grueling process. Depending upon how you run your business, you may be the kind of photographer that finds the locations for your clients or you could just let your clients pick where they want to shoot. We feel more comfortable suggesting locations that we know are close to what our clients want. If I know our client wants a "nature" feel in their shots with big trees and a beautiful sunset, we search till we find the most perfect spot. To be honest, Phoenix isn't the best place for lots of "trees" and nature but being creative with where you shoot can help you achieve that look. Sometimes just having a beautiful sunset with some greenery around can give you that "feel" your clients are going for.
One thing that drives me crazy is when I hear other photographers being super stingy with their locations they have found around town. I wish more photographers understood that we (your friends that are photographers) are better together. I don't mean you have to tell the world about a great spot because lets face it, no-one wants a million photographers at the same spot. I do think friends should share with friends so we can help each other out when we are in need. No matter who shoots where, we all will see things differently. It just seems to make sense. If you have a community of photographer friends, get together and talk about what you're looking for and maybe one of them can help you achieve it! It seems that everywhere you look someone is a new photographer and I have noticed more places are making new rules about shooting on property. It just is getting tougher and tougher to find places to shoot... so help each other out!
How do we find out spots? Well, I talk to friends when we are looking for specific places and we stop at spots we see off the side of the road. Thats pretty much it! Just getting out of the car and going for a small adventure will help you find new spots to take photos at. I look specifically for places we can shoot with a great sunset. Thats pretty much it :)
Hope everyone is having a beautiful Monday! Below is an image we took at a shoot this past weekend. I pretty much SWOON over beautiful auburn hair and pretty shoes. LOVE. We will be featuring this shoot next month.
